The Library’s Gone

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

This is a guest post by Sarah Smith

Back when I was in school, you had to go to the local library for everything. It took a lot of time to find the right book and research what you needed to know. Now that I am in college, I am amazed how I can do everything from the comfort of my home. I log onto my wildblue internet and let my fingers run wild. I can search for anything I am writing a paper about that day. I always find so many sites that I am overwhelmed with information. I enjoy the ease of doing it this way.

The economy today is hard on everyone. By doing all of your research at home, you can save a lot of money. You do not have to buy a huge set of encyclopedias. It saves a lot of money by not having to drive to the library. I know my library is clear across town, so it can get expensive. You can even save late fees. You never forget to return anything if you don’t have to do it at all.

On a daily basis, I am always needing to know a phone number or where something is located. All I have to do is search a website and find it right away. I can even look up definitions and pictures to explain it all the easiest way. It is great for teaching my children when they have a question. I have to admit I am spoiled by my wildblue satellite internet. I love having everything right at my fingertips.

A Car Price Hunt

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

I had a call from my parents last night. They said they want to sell their old Pontiac and replace it with a new car. Since they did not know much about cars, they called me to see if I could give them some advice on this matter. Well, unfortunately, I am not a car girl myself so I did not have much to say. However, I said that I will help them to find some information and let them know about it. Since they are not in a rush to buy the new car, I believe there’s plenty of time to find all the information needed.

The first thing I would like to know is the range price. I won’t deny that price is an important matter. No matter how much you like a car, you won’t be able to get it if the price is out of your reach. So, until several minutes ago, I was trying to do an internet research about cars’ prices. While I was surfing, I found this site which allows you to find out the estimate price of every car you have in mind. All you need to do is select the type of the vehicle you choose, the constructor, the model, and the year of the car’s making and you will get the information you need. This site even helps you with the geographical part. You can enter your zip code and it will show you the nearest dealers.

The site provides you with a large car’s database so that you can find Jeep Grand Cherokee prices, Mercedes Benz C-Class prices, Honda Civic prices, to Sierra prices. Just name the car, as long as it exists, the site will find it for you. I’m glad I found this site. The task seems a bit easier now.

A Mailbox with Sails and Oars

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

My son has a new handicraft task to do this week. All the pupils in his class are assigned to make decorative mailboxes. The task was made due to remind the students of the mail postmen’s job – a job which I’m afraid is disappearing due to the rise of internet usage and emails – and to appreciated them. It is due on Monday next week so I can help him with decorating his mailbox on weekend. Of course I have to leave the assembling part to my husband. He is more capable in doing that.

This assignment actually reminds me to a contest celebrated some time ago. In this contest, people were decorating their mail boxes as beautiful as they could. Real mailboxes. The winner then got some prices and the chance to be featured in a special collection of stamps. I always find the contest great. Unfortunately, I don’t think that is what’s going to happen with my son’s assignment.

I had a discussion last night with my son and my husband before we went to bed. We did not need a lot of time to reach a conclusion since my son had already known what he wants to make. He wants to make it to be like a ship with sails and bows and oars on each side of it. My son does love ships since he was in kindergarten so the idea did not surprise us at all. Now that the theme had been set, we can move on to the next preparation.

A Table, Two Chairs, and Lockers

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

I’ve been trying to find lockers for sale these few days. I was just cleaning up and rearranging our attic last weekend and found that there were so many old things that are too sentimental to be thrown away and need storage. Lockers are the first things come to my mind. They do not even need to be strikingly beautiful, just good enough to store all those things. I need to keep them tidy and I need to protect them from the dust and whatever that may damage them if they are left in the open space.

I soon made a call to my neighbor, asking her to accompany me to find some decent lockers for today. She said that she would love to do it since she also wanted to find a nice table and a couple of chairs for her balcony. So, this morning, we headed out to our quest of some decent furniture for our houses.

There were so many choices in the furniture store. We were basically spending more than 3 hours there. I never thought that finding some simple wood lockers could be that difficult. I wanted them to be as simple as possible, yet I was offered so many beautifully designed lockers. Then, I had to admit that people would more likely want to have best look and design to buy. My friend even took a longer time to decide which table she would buy. There were two small nice tables she equally loved and it had been a difficult decision for her to choose one.

Finally, I feel glad that I only need one day to get those lockers for my attic. Now, all I need to do is start storing the stuffs and clean up the attic once again for the finishing.

What You Need to Know Before Choosing Wine Cabinet or Floor Rack

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

It is important how you store your wine. There are different ways to store wine and you need to know which one is better. Knowing how long you will age them and how precious their value is is important. Here are some tips in determining whether you should go for cabinet JK Adams wine rack or floor wine rack next time you go to JK Adams.

Before anything, the first thing to check is how many bottles you want to store. People usually use a cabinet wine rack to store wine bottles in a large scale. Cabinet sizes tend to be big so it fits the function to become a main storage. Due to its size, a cabinet also takes more floor space than a floor wine rack. Floor wine racks on the other hand, comes in small sizes. They are easier to move and most proper to store a small number of wine bottles.

Wine rack cabinets are made of wood, glass, and wire. Glass cabinet is a good choice if you want to display your elaborate collection of wine. Put your cabinet in the middle of the room and decorate them with custom paint and etches.

There is one advantage which a cabinet rack can offer. A cabinet wine rack is often temperature controlled. Some even come with a control to lock the temperature to prevent a sudden change in temperature which can damage your wine. Real locks are also available in a cabinet wine rack to ensure the safety of your precious wine. You can even install alarm lock to give more safety to the cabinet.

A floor rack, on the other hand, is fitting for a small room. It takes up only small space so that it can be slipped easily into small spaces. However, if you intend to age your wine in floor racks, it means you need to control the temperature of the room. A cellar would be a perfect place to do it with your stacking up wine cellar racks filling up the room.

Not only cabinet wine racks and floor wine racks, JK Adams also sells other kitchens furniture like JK Adams pot rack or JK Adams spice rack.

What You Need to Know Before Having a Vertical Gardening

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Window boxes and hanging baskets can give a color accent to your windows and patios. These both types of gardening containers are very useful for those who have small spaces and look into vertical gardening. Their small dimension and the way they are set up make it possible to have your own garden with a very limited space around your house. If you consider in vertical planting due to limited space, then try to buy the right window boxes planters and hanging baskets since the ones with good quality can lasts until years after.

When you want to start gardening in containers, a potting mix is a must to have. Planting mixes which contain no soil have an excellent drainage without losing the water-holding capacity. Whatever you have or will have as planters, just make sure that your window boxes or hanging baskets have drainage holes. Planting plants in containers which let the water logged in the bottom of the planter is not good for the plant’s root and may lead to the plant’s death.

Hanging baskets are usually made from plastic or wire. Plastic baskets have the advantage of being inexpensive, slower to dry out, light, and easy to plant. However, it will easily crack with age especially in changing weather. Wire baskets, on the other hand, serve better as decorative items and can hold heavier plants. Window boxes come in wood, metal, fiberglass, and plastic. Same as plastic baskets, plastic window boxes are lighter and inexpensive. However, wood planters are more impressive and elegant.

Keep in mind also before you set up a window box or hanging basket that they will need a strong support system. Calculate everything including the extra weight which will be gained when the plants are watered. You don’t want to see your beautiful garden turn to a mess just because you did not pay attention to the support system.
